Passover

Last night we celebrated Passover.  A little late if you are Jewish.  A little earlier if you are Christian.  The kids helped to plan it, and surprise Big Dad.

Sher Bear and Campster colored paper plates and make them beautiful.  They cleaned and set the table on their own initiative.  Campster cut the flowers for the table, and together they arranged them.   We lit candles.

Using our copy of A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays, Big Dad led the Passover meal.  The lamb was undercooked. (Oops!)  The matzo were actually gluten-free flat crackers, as I am trying a gluten-free diet.  The wine was a combination of Kosher wine, sparkling apple cider and grape juice.  Did you know that you drink 3 glasses of wine each?  And you pour a fourth glass - so it was significantly watered down with juice.  We ate romaine lettuce for the bitter herbs, and celery.  I made an apple and walnut concoction that everyone loved.

All-in-all it was a wonderful experience.  The kids will not soon forget eating by candlelight, and having to wait while Big Dad read.  It was good practice for being patient!

I really loved how the Passover celebration showed how the Passover meal foreshadowed the death of Christ.  He is the Lamb that was slain for us.

Wish you were here!

What a great event! I learned a lot about the symbolism of the Passover meal and how it forshadows Christ's death for us. Good stuff Maynard!
